Miyajima |
Ikutsushima Shrine Wiki | Miyajima Travel Wiki | Using a special train pass called a seishun juuhachi kippu, I took several trains from Osaka all the way to Miyajima. Which became 12 hours of train travel and 6 hours of site seeing. Miyajima is a small mountainous island that is said to be one of the most beautiful places in Japan. On the island is a shrine and a large tori gate built on the ocean. As the tide recedes, its possible to walk around the outside of the shrine as well as the tori gate. Realizing that the last train home was at 6:52 we had about 20 minutes to get back to the station for the next 6 hour journey back to Osaka.
